A Step Forward
In January of 2019, lawmakers in New York passed the Reproductive Health Act (RHA). The RHA decriminalized abortion in New York and added critical protections that brought state law in line with Roe v Wade.

Anti-abortion opponents responded with a coordinated campaign to spread disinformation about the RHA on Facebook and in the media. Many people across the country still have misconceptions about what the RHA did and didn’t do. (This Fact-Check sets the record straight on the RHA)

What’s Next
Legal protections aren’t enough. We need providers to expand care and policies in place that ensure abortions are accessible. StepUpNewYork was created by advocates and activists who worked to get the RHA passed. But we won’t be satisfied until everyone can get the care they need in New York.
